Alternator

Recommended Posts

One of my bag fittings in the locker let loose and I did not know it until the engine belt started to squeal. I was able to pump the water out but now it appers that the alternator has stopped working. O the way back to the dock it started beeping low and it was down to 11.2 volts.

Could the water have ruined the alternator? I thought since they are on the lower part of the engine the marine ones could get wet?

Don’t condemn the alternator until it has completely dried out. Make sure you check the circuit breakers and confirm that you have power to it also. But I have never tried to run one under water before so It could be trashed.

I'm pretty sure you shorted something out, I would pull the alt and take it in and have it checked. As XTI04 also stated, make sure to check all your fuses/breakers.

Thats the first thing I did then I looked for the connections on the unit but it looks OK the dealer cant see me untill next week so I guess I will dive under there and pull it out and take it to autozone to test it.
