Got all the way to the lake today, and no engine start...uugghh!

Ok guys....got an '07 247 LSV with the 383 HH engine and only 55 hours on the clock (bought it with 40 hours first of the year). After dropping the beast in the water this morning and cranking it over (which it did just fine), there was no light off nor any dash gauge indications....ALL gauges remained blank/inop. While the engine turned over quite nicely with two fully charged, heavy duty Concord AGM batteries, it never even offered a whimper of a cylinder ignition (no spark).

Soooo, did some searching here and found that the culprit MIGHT BE the lanyard assembly and/or it's control relay. The search results I found were from back in 2006, where there was some mention that these '06 lanyards seem to fail at around 70 to 80 hours or so....and that the lanyard relay controls ignition spark (which makes sense), but also gauge functionality. Can anyone confirm this is correct? Seems odd that the kill lanyard would also control dash gauge power....

In any event, if this is indeed the problem (and possibly a common one), lanyard replacement seems easy enough, but just where is the lanyard relay located? Is there an on-line DIY sequence somewhere showing these items being replaced? Is there an improved lanyard/relay assembly available from later models?

Also....does anyone even attach the lanyard to themselves while driving? This is obviously a necessity with PW's (like my RXP's), but is this really a useful item on a full sized boat I axes ya?? Who has EVER fallen out of a running Malibu anyway??? Inquiring minds yano....

The dead gauges is the dead give away. It's a bad kill switch. (Lanyard)

Things I've seen -

Wedge something inbetween the lanyard finger and the button on the switch to depress it further, and/or rotate the button a few degrees until contact is made. The next quickest solution may be to reach behind the side panel and pull the wires off the back of the lanyard. Then install them on the other two spade connectors (currently unused) and remove the lanyard. This reverses when contact is made in the switch.

The perfect solution is to replace your lanyard kill switch with the new version used in 09's. It's an actual switch with a lanyard attached.

Nothing stated here is recommended, endorsed, or encouraged by myself, my business, or anyone I know.

HEY Peter...UNF'INGBELIEVABLE!!! I walked out to my just parked LSV (it's still dripping from the lake), crawled inside, turned the key to "ON", spun the depressed red button a little to the left and right just as you instructed.....and VOILA....ALL THE GAUGES came back to life, as well as the engine starting instantly!!!!! Getting an '09 lanyard tomorrow (if in stock locally).
