Lake temp reads 125 degrees - '05 Response LXi

Recommended Posts

The lake temp on my 05 Response LXi has been reading higher and higher this season. It started to be over 100 after a few runs. Now its 125. The actual engine temp seems fine.

Could this be a symptom of something wrong? The only think different this year is that I did switch to a traditional lift from an inflatable lift this year. The bunks needed adjusting, so the boat sat funny at first. Its adjusted now though. Maybe I crushed the water temp gauge or something. I don't even know where that is though.

Besides the occasional vapor lock after a long break, everything seems to run OK.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure where it is on your boat, but on mine it is almost directly under the drivers seat on the bottom of the hull. It is a small black plastic stick that points towards the front of the boat. I guess it's possible you crushed that.

The temp sensor is in the paddle wheel for your speed control system. They suck and break very often. You will need to pull it and replace it if you care. Replacing it is easy, the problem is refeeding the wire if it is not close to your dash.

Sounds like it's time for a new paddle wheel, they are not fun to replace on a Response but it's not a very hard job to do. We've got them in stock if you can't find one at your local shop

So if its just the lake sensor, there is no harm to just leaving it until the season end, right? It doesn't sound like the boat is using that for anything else besides the display. Even when it worked "correctly" it still read higher than than the water really was, so I'm not that excited about another bill and project for this one.
