ACME 537 better choice than 381 ?

I have an 07 VLX w/ the HH engine. It came with an ACME 381 that I still have on the boat. My spare prop is a 537.

Based on what i've read in this forum, it seems that I'd be better off switching to the 537 for the primary and keeping the 381 for the spare.

We split our time between sea level and about 1000' and ocassionally ride with the stock ballast plus extra weight in the rear lockers and bow. I've noticed that with the 381 and extra weight, the boat can labor a bit before planing out.

Am I correct that the 537 is a better choice than the 381?

I just switched from the 381 to the 537 last week and it made a very noticable difference getting on plane but didn't have much effect on top end. The boat runs so much smoother though with the 537.

537 - especially if you run weight or a big crew in your boat. You will love having more low end torque (you do take a away 3-4 MPH from your top end)

Maybe I'm just lucky but my boat 02 VLX wake hull with monsoon 320 would run 46.2 mph gps at around 4700 rpm with the 381. It runs 45.4 mph gps at 4950 now with the 537. This is on pretty slick water with 6 people in the boat. Gallons per hour seem to have not been affected noticably but it's really amazing how much better the boat performs all around now.
