06 VLX sitting for almost year - please help

Recommended Posts

Hey yall, I'm new to forums (1st post) and I got question regarding 06 VLX. I moved to different state recently, and my boat got left for while. I hadn't ran it since last summer (almost a year). I just got it back, got new batteries (both batteries were dead), and I'm tryin to figure out what's the best way to get it up and running again.

It's got half a tank of year old gas in it (no Stabil). I'm guessing I should siphon out that stuff and replace with new gas, is that right? Additionally, I cannot figure out how to run the boat outside of the water. I've been told you can unhook "water intake hose" and stuff garden hose up there and run it that way, but do any of yall have pictures or a "how to"? I can't even find the water intake hose after search functions both here and google. Thanks for any help and sorry for askin nub questions.

your intake should be on Starboard (drivers side) about 1-2 feet away from the back wall on the floor by the engine, it should elbow into a ball valve and then run to the vdrive which is located under the middle rear seat cushion. You should be able to see it from underneath the boat also, should be a brass strainer looking thing. I wouldn't recommend just sticking a garden hose in the intake hose, I overheated mine trying to do that. It needs to be pretty air tight.

Everyone has an opinion about old gas and here's mine, drop a container of fuel treatment and fill up with the highest octane (93). You should be ok with that.

Good Luck, and welcome to the crew!!

I've never tried running on year old gas. Not sure I'd want to frankly. I think I'd siphon the bulk of it out, then fill the tank with fresh gas.

Quite a few threads about running the boat in your driveway, and siphon problems when using a fake-a-lake. Here we discussed a cheap adapter you can make out of parts available at Home Depot so you can hook your garden hose up directly to the raw water intake hose.

Good luck.

Is it ethanol-containing gas or the real stuff? If it is ethanol-containing, I would siphon. If not, fill her up and have at it.
