Issue with fuel tank wear

Recommended Posts

So, I was changing the oil in my Walter's V Drive and noticed that the bolt that comes off of the front is rubbing against the fuel tank and has worn an indentation about a 1/4 of an inch into the plastic of the fuel tank. Looks like the wear has stopped (I think!) since it wore away the place where the friction was occuring, but there is no way I can see to easily move the two apart. Question is has anybody else ever had this problem??? Unfortunately, I am just out of warranty. Any thoughts?

Wow, that sounds like a bad accident about to happen!! Blowup.gif Those tanks can't be much thicker than 1/4". I would still take it to your dealer and/or call Malibu about it, even if it's out of warranty and no modifications were done (which I'm sure weren't) then I would think they could make an exception for something like that.

Don't have pictures but it's possible that bolt was not tightened all the way up and causing it to stick out but I'm with the others, do something so it doesn't get worse and contact your dealer. That could be a really bad situation if it started leaking and Malibu could actually be liable, the sooner you call them the better. You can never take something like this lightly because all it takes is a spark and fuel and it's all over Whistling.gif

Not sure how the newer tanks are bolted in but on my 97 the fuel tank is held in place by only two metal L brackets at the rear. Both of them are slotted for front/rear adjustment. If the dealer won't fix it i'd slide the tank forward and epoxy the worn spot on the tank.

Heck they tank may have come lose and slid back.
