Garboard Drain Fitting Leak

Recommended Posts

I noticed that I have a small trickle of water coming from where the garboard drain fitting goes through the hull. It is absolutely not coming up through the fitting and where the T-Handle mounts into it, but rather from between the hull and where the fitting meet.

Does anyone have any experience resealing these? I called my local dealer who said it was probably leaking through one of the screw holes of the fitting underneath, but I applied some 3M-5200 in them and retightened the screws and still have the leak. Has anyone had to reseal the flange to the hull and any suggestions for loosening it up? Thanks.

Well no responses, so I went it alone. Removed the screws on the flange and wondered if the T-Handle that threads in from the bilge side would thread in from the bottom. Must be tapered thread, but I was able to thread the T-Handle into the fitting from under the boat just enough to use it as a lever to wiggle the fitting and pull it down and out. Thumbup.gif Removed the old sealant and I'm ready to re-install. Hope this may help someone else in the future.
