Right Rear ballast tank fills on its own...

Recommended Posts

Boat is a '05 Wakesetter 23 LSV

When cruising anywhere above ~10knots, it looks like the right rear ballast tank starts (and continues) to fill on it's own. If we are cruising slower than 10knots than it's fine. Pump is verified to not be running when this mystery fill is happening. Someone mentioned to me that the fill/drain lines may not be above the waterline .Huh? This boat is new to me so I'm still learning all the ins and outs.

Thanks for any insight on this....

DC05 another TMC member had this same issue on an 05 LSV. It has something to do with the hose from the thru hull to the pump not being above the water line so it is basically siphoning on water. I believe you can add a valve or extend the hose to fix the problem.

Find the fill pump for that tank (turn on the pump and find the one that is humming) and follow the hose. The hose should go to an anti-siphon valve. Mine are mounted on the wall between the engine and the rear seat (a total of 3 for center, starboard & port tanks). If you don't have this (probably was an after market install), I would recommend adding it. I can take a pic of my setup, if you want. It is the factory install.

Thanks for all the replies on this issue. The boat does have the factory ballast system. After work tonight I will take a look for the intake hose routing and look for the check valve. I post what I find....hopefully something easy like routing the hose a little higher.

I do not believe this after market; they just didn't put the valves on back in 05. If your dealer can't help you out get ahold of Paul at Bake's Marine in Issaquah, WA.

kernaltao- Are these the valves you are talking about-

I did a quick visual inspection and didn't see anything obvious, I need to spend more time and look closer at the hose routing to see where it is in relationship to the waterline.
