Swimstep brackets loose- '05 VLX

The metal brackets that hold my teak step to my boat are loose. I am trying to find out if this is something to be concerned about. If it is, how hard of a fix is it? Thanks...

I would try to tighten them up. Have someone on the inside hold the nut with a wrench while you tighten them down from the outside. I wouldn't torque them down too tight as you may create spider cracks in the gelcoat, just pretty snug. Verify that there are washers on the inside, you might even want to add locking washers.

Thanks for the response guys.

I had figured that I should tighten them so I examined the layout. It's obviously easy to get to the bolt from the outside, but the other side is a different story. It looks like there might be a bunch of stuff I would have to remove to get to the nut. Any input you can offer me with that?

If they are real loose I may suggest to re seal them with marine silicone but I'm not sure how much work you want to go through. Just my $.02
