help with fuel filter

Recommended Posts

Hi Crew! i have a 2000 response lx with under 200 hours on it. I just put her in saturday(first time in 2 seasons) it ran fine, i took a couple runs and ran great. A couple hours later i started and it stalled. it has never happened before. I cant keep it running without putting in neutral and reving it up. I think there is an inline fuel filter but not sure where it is. Can anyone tell me if it is accessed through the ski locker or under the hood and is the filter something that i can gat at a NAPA store ? thanks in advance for the help!

Yes it's in the trunk, you'll need to remove the rear carpeted piece to access it. Napa makes a filter for it IIRC it's the 3299 but I can't be certain on that.

If it doesn't idle and you can rev it up in neutral it's not your fuel filter Whistling.gif

For your 2000, the fuel filter should be a Napa 3033. The difference is fuel line size. The 3299 is for '02 or '03 & up.

But 68' ^^^ gave some good advice.

Is this the first time the engine was run in two years? (If so, maybe clogged fuel injectors) Was the boat stored in a dry environment? Was a fuel stabilizer added prior to storage? How much gas was in tank while boat was in storage? Did you add new gas prior to last outing?

it was put in last year for a couple weeks and filled before it was put away. it was winterized by the dealer and shrink wrapped. It ran fine when we put it in. Like i said, we went for a putt putt, a slalom run, sat over night then a wakeboard then it happened. i really think its the fuel filter. Should i drain and dispose of the gas ?
