23 lsv wake setup for wakesurf & wakesurf

JMV Ottawa

Recommended Posts

Hello crew,

I just purchased a 23 lsv 2004 with ballast & wedge and I would like to get few tips to setup the wake for wakesurf. Do you guys use full ballast + wedge?

Should I fill the ballast in the bow?

Thanks for your help

Congrats on the new boat!

Fill all of the surf side ballast and the bow. All passengers (voice activated ballast) on the surf side, the more the merrier. With the wedge, you definitely need to have the bow weighted. If you have additional sacs position those on the surf side and fill those too. Speed should be 10 - 12 mph. Do a seach or scan some of the recent threads, and you will find what others have done. This topic has been discussed at length a number of times, so there's a ton of information available.

I have a VLX and fill the stock surfside ballast, add 750 to the rear surfside locker, 400 on the seat and an addition 400 in the bow with the wedge about 3/4. Of course, all VAB on the surfside as well.

Congrats on the new boat! We also just bought an 2007.....

We us just the surf side stock tank and all the VAB..... We usalley have sever adults on boad.....

Try getting as many as you can on the engine cover and the biggest down on the swim deck. You can watch and adjust from there..... Wedge down at 11 mph has been working well

Good luck and have fun....

if you think you have enough weight double it any way you can my 247 rocks four 750's a 550 a 400 and a 350 plus all stock ballast minus the right rear try no wedge. people were claiming centurions were better waves bull s***. most bu owners i have taught to sac their boats were really nervous about the amount of weight we have to put in our boats to get the wave perfect. that worry goes away when the wave comes alive.

This is kind of funny to me, I own a bu and love it, but to compare the bu wave to the centurions wave?

if 4300# of extra ballast is needed in addition to factory to make a compareable wave to the 240 Enzo with factory and a enzo sac(1450#) then i would say that the Enzo wins that battle. I have spent a lot of time on the enzo wave and it is just better then any malibu wave i have been on yet. Like I said I love my Malibu but the 240 Enzo rides better and make a better wave for sure!!

There is a problem about putting a lot of weight on top of the factory ballasts.

I have put extra weight in the 23 lsv and i saw water accumulating in the back storage room. Maybe 2 inches higher than the carpet?

+ the second time I tried it : there was so much water in the bow that it was splashing everywhere in the engine compartment.

Is it normal?

Has anyone seen that in the past?

How can I fix this issue?

Thanks for your help

I had this problem with my 23 foot Mastercraft, and the water was leaking thru the rub rail joint. Dealer tried 3 times to remove rub rail and re-silicone, with minimal luck. However, I think the boat didn't come out of the mold happy, so I sold it and bought a BU!!! Might be worth a look for you though.

dont pull your hard tank. you can fit a 750 pound sac in the rear locker. you will have to get some elbow fittings and make a snorkel to attach your pump too because when the sac is full you cant get the pump on the drain valve of the sac. there just is not enough space for the pump and the full sac and the top of the compartment. when you keep your hard tank you will have 900 lbs back there. if the idea is to add weight to the boat why would you pull the hard tank? get a custom sac made as well. works the best. paul at bakes marine can help with dimensions.

sir, funny as it may be the truth will set you free. that post is my old configuration. my new configuration with the 247 surf sac is 2500 pounds, rear left tank full, no center and no front. we actually get a better wave with less weight because of the proper weight distribution down the side of the boat. Chase Hazen, Wes Beck and many others claim that it is the best wake surf wave they have ever ridden. futhermore, if you put just a 1500 pound sac in the enzo the wave is lacking the power and height of the 247 wave. the enzo really does need more weight that just the enzo sac. I promise you I have more time than you do on an Enzo wave and I have a ton more time than you on a 247. the enzo would be much more comparable to the 247 wave with more weight.

where in town do you live. i will invite you out to ride. i will photograph the look on your face once you ride it and we can post that result!

i am not a big fan of putting VAB on the engine cover and i never have anyone on the swim deck.

It is not worth the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning, we read stories every year about people dying of this, your lungs fill with CO, you fall in and sink because you do not have any air in your lungs to keep you afloat.

2008 23 LSV... we run a 900 lb V-surf sumo sac in the surf side locker and have all factory ballast full. Still playing with wedge position but I do know the wedge at max wake kills the wave. I have bough another 900 lb sac for the floor... will try it in the spring. In the surf sac locker I cut a 3/4" piece of plywood to better support the weight over the factory ballast as the floor is very thin.... epoxied for rot protection and carpeted for looks. Always have your factory tank full before filling the ballast sac.

pics above have 2007 LSV wedge on 9

hmmmm... I'll have to play a bit more in the spring as when I used max wedge it cuts the top of the wave off and caused alot of white water

The day the pictures were taken had a total of (2) guys and (2) girls, with one of them surfing. The boat had the Enzo sac full around 1400lbs., the mid ballast tank 20lbs. and depending on when the picture there might have been 400lbs. in the bow or 0lbs. since we were having a problem with one of the ballast puppies, we usually just run the stock 200lbs. Also a 400lb. sac in the rear seat since we were light crewed. Oh and three small dogs.

Here is what it looked like last weekend with Enzo sac, center ballast so about 1600lbs. with me driving and the 8 pound dog.

Sir, as much as I love you, no one i have mentioned had ridden a 247 wave prior to your competition. all of my claims are made well after your tournament. the consensus from the best riders in the business is the Blue Thunders wave is the shiznitzinwhizzel! it is taller, longer, more powerful and has more pop. i can also put the wedge up and the wave becomes even longer. Now with that said i like the Enzo wave. It is a good wave. I also like the fact that you put less weight in your boat to achieve a descent wave. but not much less. when we rode with you on your boat Leah and I both agreed the wave was very nice but the boat needed more weight. we added a 400 pound sac on the seat of the mighty enzo and it was better but still lacked the power of Blue Thunders wave. this by the way brought your total sac weight to 2000 lbs which is only 500 off of Blue Thunders Sac Weight.

Rhino....What happened to your pics?

That's because you have never ridden behind an Enzo... Tongue.gif

I don't care what any-a-y'all say - that Enzo wave is awesome.

Right Brad... Rockon.gif

Are we comparing apples to apples? Are saying that your boat with one driver and two passangers has more power? Because I would say any boat with only 3 passengers is going to be "lacking power" and keep in mind that adding the 400lb. sac to the back really only brought us up to 4 total passengers and 1 rider.

this by the way brought your total sac weight to 2000 lbs which is only 500 off of Blue Thunders Sac Weight.

So you are saying that you run 500 lbs. more sac weight plus the built in ballast which puts you something like 1500 lbs. more weight than me which is almost double my total ballast?

Oh and by the way everyone told me that they just said that because they were riding in your boat and didn't want to hurt your feelings or have to pay for gas... Whistling.gif
