23 LSV wake setup - need help

OK wakeboarders, need some help. I am a convert from skiing thanks to my kids wanting to wakeboard. So, out with the LXI and in with the LSV. Up until this point, we have played with the power wedge a bit but I really need some help with how to set up the ballast and where to park the wedge for a steeper wake. Is there a good starting point? Fill this full...fill this half...etc? Dontknow.gif My 11 year old gets a pretty nice wake at 16.5 mph with no ballast and no wedge. I go 19.5 - 20 and the wake is almost enough to launch my inexperienced 180 lbs WTW. Now I want to try to get more height and need some more help from the boat since I'm too chicken to do it with the shallow ramp that I am boarding behind.

Thanks

For my riding, I fill up all MLS and run wedge at 60-70%. Gives a more steep wake with a little more lip. I ride at 22 mph but with my new board, I'm going to probably push that up to 24.

Play around with it and see what you and yoru kids like. You'll know it when you see it and ride behind it.

Good luck!

First off, it is not the size of even shape of the wake that will get you W2W or even big air! Its your technique!!That being said, with that boat, factory ballast, and the wedge you will have a Very nice wake! You can add bags later but right now there is no need for them at the skill level you guys are at!

How many in your crew? What is your rope length? At that speed it will have to be a shorter rope, maybe about 65ft. I ride at 75-80 ft at 23.5 behind our 23 with full ballast and the wedge down and the wake is great, when i really want to beat myself up i toss the 400# sacks in the rear lockers and move some VAB up front and it is insane!! Thanks guys. We usually ride with 3 in the boat while someone is being towed. But, it usually includes 2-3 kids around 100 lbs or less so not too loaded in the boat. I think I am running with 65-70 feet of rope...I can't remember. One section is removed and the rope does not get any shorter. So, I guess you are saying that as we get better, we use a longer rope and faster pull. Makes sense.

I'll fill all MLS and drop the wedge and play with that. Sounds easier than what I was told by the dealer who tired to explain a really complicated formula which I promptly forgot. Thanks

We ride with the factory ballasts full and the wedge all the way down and about 6-8 adults in the boat......

I'm no good but the others that ride behind the boat are pretty good and love the wake!

EDIT: oops..... 85-90ft and 22.2-22.8 mph

I totally agree. I have a 2006 V-ride and I loaded it down last year with ballast and created a huge wake I could go wake to wake and pull of some board grabs. I rode at 65' and 22 MPH. Then I bought "The Book" DVD series and realized I was doing everything wrong. I went out this year and practiced the techniques they showed in the video and now I can go wake to wake and get decent air and pull off the same board grabs without ANY ballast - not even the center tank and with less effort. Oh yeah and that is riding at 70' and 21 MPH. I realized technique is way more important than alot of ballast. So the factory ballast should give a really nice wake.

fill it all up, wedge about 65% down, then we will usually fill just one big sack across the back seat for a great wake. Or if you have two fill up the lockers on each side of motor. Bigger wake is way more fun. It is hard to beat the 23 w/ 8.1 and 1k of lead though. I spoiled now and have only been riding behind my buddies boat lately.
