Moisture in Gauge

I just noticed when I went out on the boat this past weekend that there is moisture in one of my gauges, it's the big one on the left (can't remember whether it's the RPM or speedometer because I don't really use the analog gauges).

I noticed there was some water under the gauge in the crease where the dash panel ends. The cover was on it all the time, but we had a lot of rain and it got in somehow. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the moisture out and make sure it's sealed up so it doesn't happen again? Is it going to do any damage to have the moisture in there for a week or two until I can get it fixed?

the fix for that for the old medallion guages was drilling a small hole in the back of the guage at the "5 o'clock" position. worked like a champ on my '00 response

Just wanted to double check that this was the right fix for this problem>

I drilled a little hole in the bottom of one of my guages, by bottom I mean so moisture would drip out if it collected in the bottom of the gauge (not drilled on a flat surface but on the circumference of the gauge). It seemed to work but I can't confirm that it was the right thing to do.
