So I was getting sick to my stomach as I watched the warming tray slide back and forth turning my gelcoat to powder under the rear sundeck. Everytime I looked I was trying to figure out something to do to fix it or cover it up. Not to mention that those areas are slicker than snot when wet and you step on them. On a suggestion from Liljohn to put some sort of traction pad in there I went ahead and ordered up some HydroTurf and made some inserts for under the rear sundeck by tracing out a template on clear plastic and fine tuning it on cardboard. They aren't perfect but pretty close if you don't look to hard. I had originally ordered this stuff to put on my trailer fenders, I hated the sandpaper traction strips on my last trailer and decided to do something different. I ordered a whole sheet so I had plenty to do this little project.

Yes they installed it after I picked up the boat, it was part of the deal when I bought it. They had to order it.

I've got the diamond plate pad on the fenders just like you have on the step of the trailer and I've thought about taking off and doing something like what you have especially since there is a little bit of rust that is showing up adjacent to the diamond plate pad.

Thanks for posting this up Thumbup.gif looks great

Where did you order the pad from, I have been thinking about doing the same thing on my new VLX?

Thanks,

Terry

That looks great.. Do you think it would hold up on the rear deck.. My boat has that rubber stuff on it that is made from rubber tires and it tracks alot of black crap into the boat which drives me crazy... I need to do something about as Malibu won't replace it for me.. I'm not sure who designed it that way but that guy needs to be fired....

Anyhow this seems like a cheaper option than what Malibu wants to charge me for new swimstep covering so I was hoping this will be durable enough.. What do you think?

Well it was designed to be used on jetski's and stuff so I doubt it would be a problem. It's not going to be as thick as the rubber on your platform, it's about 1/2 - 2/3 as thick.

You know I had that rubber deck on my 06 vlx and never had a problem with the black residue issue, I think it has alot to do with keeping a boat out in the sun, I think it breaks down that material. Obviously they didn't think it was a good idea after 06' either because they stopped using that stuff.

Exactly... the fenders are to cover the wheels, not to step on

I'd like to see you get into my boat without stepping on the fenders. Unless you're 8' tall it's not going to happen.
