Transom Shower

Hey 'bu gurus...quick question...say I was to buy a Malibu (07) but it didn't have the hot/cold shower. Is this something that can easily be added? If so, can a DIYer take care of it or is it restricted to professional installation?

yes you can.

I was just talking with a dealer regarding buying a '07 LSV that does not have the hot water shower and he indicated the boats needs to have closed loop cooling for the hot water. Is this true?

The hot water shower will not work with a closed loop system. The heated water is the cooling water from the engine.

I use mine for a shot of hot in the wetsuit before taking the plunge. Also good for warming hands and feet. The only month I miss is Feb. (nuke lake)

I have only used mine once, and that was to see if it work.

My new boat was ordered without it,

we ski if the lake isn't frozen and would not do that w/o the heater and shower.

net worth depends on how you plan on using it.

also, keeping the cfo comfortable can be priceless.

Exactly!! It extends your ski season if you are willing to use it, we generally go up until October or November here in Colorado.

Glad to hear it. I thought we were the only crazzies here in CO!

Installing one in my '03 vlx right now. Super easy. Just trying to find places to mount everything that look good and are out of the way. I will need a bit more hose and am in the process of ordering the quick disconnects to make winterizing easier. If you are halfway mechanically inclined it isn't bad. I just don't fit in the port locker on my back very well, even with the tank removed.

Just need to figure out the wiring, but the water stuff is easy.

Ok, so I popped off about how easy it was, well at least the mechanical hookup, but am working on the electric. Dontknow.gif I have a factory switch I ordered from Bakes set up to go in the rear locker and have the wire run up front. I assume the third terminal on the switch runs to ground...correct?

I also want to integrate the power into the factory breaker panel(to use the existing 10 amp breaker), but all the wires in it are orange. There is a large bus on the bottom of the panel and then the indivdual breaker for the shower with a large and small lead running into it. Can I cut and splice or do I need to follow those leads up to the switch in the dash that is extra(I actually have two unused switches). Can I run my lead (from the rear mounted switch and pump) up there and plug into one of them (which in my mind would give the driver ultimate control of the shower) or like I asked, just tap into the panel. Also where is the easiest place to connect the neutral in all that apparatus? Too many orange wires for me....what happened to black and red?

Thanks in advance.

I can't answer your wiring question, but I can tell you it is most convenient to have the on/off switch in the transom area near the mixing valves so the rider has full control.

That's the way I have it set up, but was kind of wondering if I ran it through the swich up front as well as the back, that the driver could allow/disallow use and there would be a second switch at the transom. That way if something happened, the driver could turn it off up front. In my mind, the transom mounted switch wouldn't work unless the dash mounted switch was on. Really I am just looking for the easiest way to wire without having to cut any more than I have to.

Hot water shower from Heater Craft $300.

Wetsuit $100.

Starting your season in 48 degree water in March, priceless!

Thanks to all you DIYers for help in getting the shower installed. Looks great. Will post pictures soon.

Just bumping this thread up to see if anyone has any experience with a shower with closed loop cooling. On the order form next to hot shower it says "average performance with closed loop cooling"... Anyone know how it works and how average it is?
