Sticker residue removal

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the state ID # on the side of the boat. It was on the colored gelcoat which I've never liked due to the sun fading the color around it. I'll put the new #'s below on the white part of the gelcoat. What do I use to get the stickey left over glue off? I'm worried Goof Off will mess up the colored gel coat.

Goof off won't hurt a thing. Also a little wd-40 on a soft cloth will take it right off.

Yeah I've used both WD40 and spray adhesive remover with no problems.

napa sells a residue/decal remover made by 3M. its basically a wax wheel that mounts on a drill, it takes the residue right off with no effort and doesn't harm the gel coat

May want to check your state regs on where you are required[/i to place your numbers.

Ditto to the suggestions on the residue. Heat gun, 3m adhesive remover, and the 'eraser' work very well.

3M makes an adhesive remover. It is about $10 for a pint bottle at Napa and is the best product for that use. Goof off, WD-40, heat gun all work well too. They just take more time.

Due to the dumb vent that came on my boat my gel coat has had a lot of gas on it, holds up pretty good. I wouldn't have any worries about goof off.

I use bug and tar remover in a spray bottle. it leaves a nice shine after too... just spray on, and hold the liquid there for a few minutes, then wipe off. no harmful chemicals or solvents...
