Calling all 2009 21 vride owners (and experts)

First time poster to this forum...

I am coming from an i/o (18 1/2) foot and looking hard at a 21 vride. My wife and I have gotten pretty serious about wakeboarding as a hobby and also want to surf. We aren't trying to be pros here but are ready to enter the inboard world. In other words, we probably won't ever get to the point that we need to "fine tune" to improve our riding. I think going from our boat to this one will be more than suitable.

That said, any reason to look to a different 'bu than a 21 vride? I know the VLX is the same size. I've read about the lack of front ballast but it seems to me the wake will be plenty for us and the bow rise will be less than our current i/o.

For average riders who love the lake will this do the trick?

Thanks...and I hope to be a Malibu owner soon.

The boat is on the 05-08 Vlx hull which produces a great wake for wakeboarding and produces a great surf wake with a little extra weight. Bow ballast can always be plumbed in at a later date. With all of the systems and sacs on the market today, I would not let that stop me from buying the boat.

Chris - Thanks for the reply. Good point about adding bow ballast in the future. Seems to have enough storage that it wouldn't be a problem.

We have an 08 VRide that we bought in July last year. This is not our first inboard boat but definitely our best. We LOVE it! If you haven't purchased it yet I think you will be very happy with it. It drives like a dream and throws a sic wake. When my wife first showed me the VRide and it said entry level wakeboaring boat I told her I didn't want an entry level boat, but when the dealer explained to me what the VRide was I changed my mind. The VRide hull is the hull that was used in the pro circuit for many years. In 05 Malibu redesigned the Wakesetter and then started producing the Vride with the old mold. So any wakesetter older than 05 is the same as the Vride you would be buying, less a little chrome. We wakeboard, wakeskate and surf behind out boat and it is great. Both my wife and I can surf with out the rope and last year I learned how to just drop off the back and not use a rope at all. This is all without any modifications to our boat. I have read some post on putting 750lb fat sacks in the back or a bow ballast in, but we have not had to do that yet. Don't know if that helps out any, but just though I would respond since I am also a new Vride owner.

Actually I think they changed the hull for '09 which is what he's looking at. I'm not sure what hull they went to though, just wanted to clarify that.

Edit: I just checked, the hull is now the V25 whereas I think it was the SV23 or something like that.

Yeah I know they changed the hull which makes it even better, don't get me started on that. I might have waited had I known the hull was going to change. But all said I still love my 08 Vride.

You got a great hull...the wake is underrated, imo.

We bought! Yesterday we picked up a 2009 21 vride. It is the V25 hull. We took it out today to get some hours on it. We got 7 hours on it and then our prop hit something...FIRST DAY. We have been on this lake 50+ times and never hit anything. New boat, first day, what are the odds?? We were in 27 ft of water so I think it was floating. Looks like I'll be replacing a prop. Doesn't look bad (bent one blade) but it vibrates.

I'll post pics soon...

A great these boats are, but a bummer to hit something, especially first time out. Look on the bright side, maybe that happened to change your awareness to keep you from hitting something worse later.

Get it fixed and use it as the backup or primary, it will be as good as new after repair. Get something different for your 2nd prop, that way you have two options on props. Lots of info on props here, just search. I think a group buy for props just completed, but check the for sale section often, someone may be swapping out their old props because of the GB.

Hey Congratulations, and welcome to the Malibu family and the Malibu Crew forum.

I have a 2007 VRide, not really the same as your VRide, but I have spent some time in the 2009 21VRide, and it is a GREAT BOAT!

Thanks for the welcome. I will post a new thread with pics of the ride after this weekend.

We custom ordered a 2008 Vride last year from Bake's. Loved and love the boat. About 3 weeks after delivery we hit something on Lake Washington way out in the middle of the lake. The boat "seemed" to be okay--I couldn't find a nick or scratch in the prop. We'll over the winter the true damage was discovered. The strut was bent and the prop was ever so minorly bent. We ended up needing a new strut and the prop was compressed back to shape. Total repair bill was about $1000. I hear your pain!!!
