Racor LG50 for '08 LXi - Making sure I'm cutting the Vent Line

I've read quite a few posts on the LG50 and I'm going to order one. I'm not the most mechanically inclined so I want to make sure that I've correctly identified the vent line where it connects to the the gas tank.

The tech at the dealership said I would have to take out the angle blocks in the ski locker, then remove the back panels on either side of the flip up access thing (I told you I'm not technical) and finally pull out the bottom of the ski locker.

After getting the blocks, back panels out and trying to figure out how to remove the floor, I realized that I was possibly staring at the vent line. If I'm correct, I would have only had to remove the right hand panel (when looking at the ski locker from inside the boat).

Here are the pics and I've circled what I believe is the vent line:

Vent line @ tank?

I just want to confirm that is indeed the vent line coming out of the top of the fuel tank and not the gas line going into the tank?

Also, for those of you who have purchased an LG50, is there only one 90 degree fitting that comes standard with the unit? It looks like I need to come out of the tank and go 90 degrees up into the LG50 and then go 90 degrees out the top as well.

Thanks in advance for any assistance (preferably from LXi owners who have done this install).

Brian

I just put one on my 23 lsv this weekend. I bought another 90 degree fitting at Lowes just like the one in the racor thread in the resources/diy section. My tank was located under the floor so it wasn't like your pictures but the difference between the fuel line and the fuel vent line was considerable. The actual fuel line was huge.

I was under the impression that you should put it as close to where the fuel vent line comes out of the hull as possible and make sure it is as vertical as possible. I didn't even look down at the fuel tank. I just looked inside the port side locker on the hull. The vent line was just aft of the fuel line and they both ran down to the tank together.

It was an easy installation and only took about 15 minutes once I finally found and bought the 90 degree fitting at Lowes.

Good luck,

Todd

Thanks Todd!

Can anyone confirm that I did indeed find the vent line? I put a yellow circle where I was thinking of cutting the hose in the "Wide Shot" picture in my original post.

Since I'm not mechanically inclined it would be nice to know I'm not going to mess up my boat by putting the LG50 on the wrong hose. I think it would also be nice for LXi owners who are looking to do this mod in the future to know exactly where to install it without without much difficulty or anxiety. I've search the forums and there are no pics of any being installed on an RLXi

Thanks,

Brian

That's the right size hose. The only way to be positive is to follow it to the vent on the outside of the hull.

Since I've received so much help and info from the board, I thought I'd post these pics that I took last year of the LG50 installation. Just in case any RLXi owners are looking to do it in the future. Apparently I ended up making the right cuts.

I'm glad I did this mod because now the 'bu fills like a car at the gas station and I don't smell any overflow when I'm behind the boat on tight turns. Highly recommended!!!

Congrats on a fininshed job and money saved! TheMalibuCrew is awesome! It makes sense to put it close to the tank to me, but others mention to try and place it close to the vent. It's obviously working for you, I may have to try and install one, fueling is such an adventure.

I wanted it to be completely vertical. Heard it works best that way. Plus, on a RLXi I don't know if I would have been able to get anywhere close to the vent without a whole lot of work.

The LG50 works best if it's vertical. Thanks for the pictures, I was trying to figure out where to put one in my 09 so it would sit vertically. If you put it close to the hull fitting, it will have to sit horizontal, then it barely works.

So, you helped at least one person out. :)

I installed the racor on my 99 vlx and the vent host from the tank to the racor is more horizontal than vertical. The racor is completely vertical. Will fuel sit in the hose if it's horizontal? Is this anything to worry about?
