Online boat selling sites?

Don't forget about Ebay - I bet I got more inquries and calls form listing on ebay then you could imagine. Boat sold in about a week in this market. It is very cheap to list - put a reserve on the boat, give it a low opening bid - if nothing else, it gives you and idea what the boat is worth. Best bet is to price the boat right - seems to be a market for the lower priced boats right now.

I always consider Ebay a last resort, since you get all the crazy lowballers. But I will if it comes down to that.

My boat, being older and lots of hours, would fall into the lower priced boat category. It's in the classifieds for all who are interested.

x3 for craigslist.

x4 - sold our last boat and car on Craigslist. Check your local paper's website also, ours is free for online only. Probably lost all their paying customers to CL so now it is free also.

The most inquiries I received when I sold my last boat were from Boattrader period. Don’t forget boattrader is something our friends to the north view as it’s well known. I never received a call or email from CL, onlyinboards was a distant second. Brandon of Central Kentucky Inboards sells boats and great guy to deal with.

I'd be willing to bet that the success of CL is dependant on where your located.

5 yrs ago we moved from Seattle to Spokane. At the time CL was very successful in Seattle, and very new in Spokane. On any typical day there would be over 10,000 new ads in the Seattle CL, and maybe 200 in the Spokane CL. And people in Spokane would put up crazy prices. At one point we needed to put all new appliances in a house & decided to go all used. We found everything way cheaper & in way better shape in Seattle. The 5 hr drive (each way) to pick up a washer, dryer, fridge & range saved us like $1000 from buying it locally..... and we got to spend a weekend with old friends again. To this day, prices in the Spokane CL are still a stretch, although it has gained a lot in popularity. Slowly people are learning how to use various search engines to search for items in various cities' CL listings. I'd like the think that will help sell things a bit.

We just sold an ATV in the Spokane CL last night. Took a while but we had a number of calls / emails & got our asking price for it.

Agreed. It's very regional to start with, & is more successful in some areas than others. It's very big up here in the NW.

Best practice is to cover all of your bases, IMO.

I had about equal response from usedboats.com & boattrader.com.

The dealer I bought my Malibu from was kind enough to list my old boat on UsedBoats.

CL wasn't so big around here 2 years ago.
