Extra LED's - I've got an idea

I have 3 led pods left over from my install. I was thinking about mounting them to the end of the trailer so that they may look cool under water while loading at night, possibly give me some guidance while loading at night, and reflect off the transom and look cool while trailering home.

I have an 06 boat mate tandem trailer. Does anyone know what color of wire on the trailer wiring I need to tap into for power (I would assume which ever wire powers the tail lights)? I also assume that I can ground them to the trialer frame.

Your input is appreciated.

Isn't it illegal to have lights such as under carriage, ones that can be seen by other drivers while underway, etc?

I wouldn't think so, they won't be shining directly at any one, just up on the transom.

Ok cool! Are you thinking of putting them on the trailer to point up at the boat's hull like WW or down to the ground like undercarriage? Having them as guides for bringing the boat out of the water at night is a pretty sweet idea.

Up north here, any lights visible outside the vehicle that is not standard is illegal. Glad to hear you folks down south have less strict laws. I think it should be legal if the lights are under a certain lumen.

They would point up towards the transom. I'm not sure it will work the way I'm thinking. (I'm thinking about it as I type). I think I should scratch the pole guide idea and just use 2 as guides on the back brace. I don't think it will actually shine on the transom though because I don't think the boat sits far enough up on the trailer. Attached is the best pics I have.

I like the idea of the light shining up towards the hull. Looks cool driving down the road, plus then you can see the trailer clearly if your loading after dark. I think I'd string the lights up on a couple of long wires, then play with various positions on the trailer some evening. Put them on the guide poles, or on the frame by the fenders, etc. Stand back & look at it like it's driving by you. Experiment with it a bit & see what you like. I'd bet one idea will jump out at you.

That's exactly what I'll do. Does that boat look familiar Bill?

You have good taste. Definitely like the curves of the Titan III better too.

I remember one of my first posts I asked how much extra the upgrade was for an Illusion tower  Although mine is not cosmetically perfect I can see why it's the other way around, that T3 is solid as a rock!!! But I personally like the look of the illusion a little better but not enough to sacrifice the functionality!!! I know, this horse has been beaten to death!!!

Although I always trust Bill's advise (except for part of the winterization guide you gave me), can anyone else verify that the brown wire is what I would use as power for these led's?

Not at all, guys. Gotta be a little thicker skinned in these forums than that. I realized a long time ago that I'm in the minority on the Illusion vs Titan selection. I just attribute it to owners looking for a boat with "the look" or the sturdiest equipment made. And after years of owning boats, and breaking equipment, I am now of the mindset that I can give up some of the look for what doesn't break or cause me headaches.

Notice in the Malibu Wallpaper thread all the Titan towers I posted though. It's not by coincidence that there are that many Titans in the group.

As far as that winterization guide is concerned, hey, it's a guide. It's not the Bible. As I recall it was written for an older boat. Most of the details were pretty accurate, but I'm sure Indmar has made changes on various engines that make it not perfect. Got me thru the last 2 winters though. Thumbup.gif
