Ski Locker Bilge Drain

The ski locker in my Sunscape has a drain plug (thru the hull) and a drain hole that goes back into the engine compartment bilge.

There is a screw plug in the drain to the engine bilge - just wondering if there is any reason to not keep that open so any water into the ski locker drains to the back of the boat to be pumped out?

I use that plug to get all the water out of the boat when it's on the trailer, lower the nose so all the water drains to the front, plug the screw plug, then raise the front of the boat .. only reason I can think of
