Core for HeaterCraft 300H Series

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know an auto replacement part for the heatercraft 300H series? I saw a posting for the 200H series, but that core is smaller than the 3 port version.

Heatercraft sells a replacement core for $113 (plus shipping), but I can get a new heater unit for $125 from my local malibu retailer.

I'm hoping to stay cheap and find an auto replacement for much less.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I found the core replacement for the 200H by just taking the core into a Napa auto when they weren't busy & they cross referenced it. This method should work for the 300H too.

This has been discussed here before. You do not want an automotive replacement core. The marine version has some sort of coating in it to allow the use of raw water without causing corrosion, the automotive one does not. In an automotive application the anti-freeze has anti corrosives in it to protect the core from corrosion. The automotive version won't give you much service life before you're replacing it again. Been there...

Huh. I don't remember hearing anything about an interior coating. Regardless, if you're running in water that corrodes the core, you're gonna be replacing it again anyway.

As to the $125 price mentioned above--I'd be willing to bet that is the core ONLY.

First I've heard of this. And contradicts my own experience with automotive heater cores. We had a 1988 MC Prostar 190 that we put an automotive core in back in like 1996. That boat made the Long Beach to Catalina ski race several times pulling Tony Klarich in a tube & Mary Murphy on a SkySki..... salt water. And it's still the same core.

Might be an interesting conversation with someone at Heatercraft.
