Speedo PickUp

Recommended Posts

Someone recommended that i pull the speedometer pick-up and put in the blank plug when towing for a long trip (4 - 5 hours) to reduce the wear on the small paddle wheel.

With the way if sits, it would spin with the wind, about like it was in the water.

There is nothing in the owners manual about this, either the Malibu book or the booklet on the speedo pick-up.

Anyone have any experience either way?

Sounds like a whole lotta work just to tow for a while.

But, you better do it because I bet a piece of masking tape would never work out.

You'd need something like that aircraft grade 200 MPH tape to with stand highway speeds.

I was recommended by my dealer to pull the speedo for long trips as well. I have pulled it before, only takes a minute. Although I have had to put it back in while on the water. That's a big hole when water starts coming in!!!
