06 HH 383 plugs - how often do you change them

Recommended Posts

I am wondering how often change the spark plugs in the HH's? I would look in my manual for the recommended interval but:

A) my manual is black from mold and one page now

B) these are the same people that three years after they sold it to me said the dipstick was wrong.

I have an '06 HH too and changed them in 08 after about 260hours. I thought it would cure a bit of black soot that I"m getting on the transom. The engine runs the same and the soot is unchanged. Dontknow.gif I think new plugs was a good idea anyway. Unless there is a serious problem I wouldn't expect to notice a difference.

Just looked it up today. On my 07 it says ever 300 hours or 2 years. I talked to my local shop(I know these guys real well) and he told my not to worry about it for a long time.......

My buddy has an 07 with like 475 hours and never touched the plugs.

I'm all for maintenance but if it ain't broke don't fix it...... In my mind worn out plugs will not cause any damage only a little headace......

On just about all newer cars today you don't change the plugs until about 100k miles. I bet you could go 500 to 1000 hr and not have an issue with plugs - I would be interested to see what is recemmonded.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? I cannot remember what range it needs to be in(Indmar tech service could help here) but the fuel pressure regulator failed on a few customers boats, with poorer fuel usage and excessive soot on the back of the boat.

If I bought the boat new I wouldn't worry, but used I would do a complete tune up just so I could look at the plugs to see how MY new engine is running and start from square one, But I'm anal and I'm sure your plugs are fine, maybe.. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, I had my dealer look at the engine and he said it was within specification, although being an engineer in the fluid power industry I would like to know how to connect my own gauges. I have two ideas that I'm chasing now on the black soot: 1. The water temperature only gets to 160 when i'm skiing, otherwise it's about 145 so I'm considering a 180 degree thermostat (when I can find one) 2. I realized that I've never had a good oil change or a full 6 quarts (383 HH) I'm going to do the lower the tongue, lift the port side wheel and add 2 extra quarts routine this weekend. I guess this is a thread hijack Dontknow.gif Sorry about that...
