need help with 87 malibu

Hi, I need help. I have a 1987 malibu with a new 350 mercruiser 350 engine. I replaced the ehaust manifolds, new coil, new distribuator, Carburator has been redone. It is great for about 20 minutes than it just dies, coil gets hot, Its puting out 17 volts everywhere, drops down to 14 volts. The coil runs off the alternator. I have taken this boat out 7 times this summer, 7 times i had it towed back in..ahhhhhhhhhh from a mastercraft..... I need help Cry.gif

could the alternator cause the coil to get so hot its shuts the motor down?

can you give us more info. like what are the gauges reading. will it run great for 20 min then die. how long befor it will start back up. and any thing else you can think of. Is the carb electronic? Is any of the warning lights coming on? is the eng getting to hot, is the water pump working? I would like to help but need more more info.

Looks like it was the coil, they put an aftermarket coil on it and it got real hot and shut down. We put on a mercruiser coil, and runs great.

Does anyone know how the shower system works. Do you have to put it in neutral and rev up the motor for the warm water comes out of the sprayer? Not sure how to use it correctly....

I rev my motor just a small amount in neutral and the hot water is available.
