Exhaust tips

Was looking at putting the STE exhaus ttips on my Malibu Sportster to help with a little noise, and CO behind boat. in the process I came across a set of angle cut straight exhausts that came off of a 32' Fountain. They are 4.5" diameter and have the same holes to mount. Would these work even close to as well as the STE tips? Reason I am asking is the STE are going to cost roughly $350 for a set, and these are virtually free from a friend.

How do you figure those tips would reduce the CO, and unless there is some sort of baffle in there, noise would be the same too... but they sure would look nice when the boat is on the trailer

Those tips would be more show than function, Malibu did a similar exhaust port back in 03-04. Your exhaust is 3.5" anyways so those 4.5" exhaust ports won't work anyways.

The STE exhaust ports are the only ones I've found to be functional and add a updated "bling" look to the transom of the boat

Since those do not have the rubber baffles at the tail end like your current units, the noise level will increase even if they have the internal metal baffle inside. Malibu used 3.5" ones on the boats equipped from Malibu.

What about the full 90 degree turn downs they were putting on the boats around 04? Those things were great...I actually have a set on order for my lxi.

My opinion is that they actually make the sound level louder, particularly with a fiberglass platform. The sound waves bounce off the hard water surface, then off the platform numerous times before exiting the area. At wakeboard speeds and boat attitude, this "sound chamber" is enhanced by the water around the platform.

A wood platform helps absorb the sound, but I recommend against the 90 degree turn downs for this reason.
