Engine/Trans replacement

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who is looking at a 1987 Ski Supreme that is sold with no engine/transmission/exhaust/driveshaft/prop in it. Any ideas on replacement costs or ideas where to get the parts?? Boat is in good condition, just no powertrain. If the boat was more or less free would it be worth it to replace everything or would it cost too much for that old of a boat?? He is trying to step up to a ski boat on a budget from an old 70's tri-hull with 65hp outboard. Would it be more feasible to just buy something already running for the price of all the parts??

i got a 03 vlx stripped like that. i repowered it with an 05 engine. cost about 8000 so far doing everything myself

since your boat is older, it will be easier and cheaper. i would estimate about 4-8 grand depending on what parts you install and wether you use a carb or efi engine

Plan was to go Carb 350, nothing fancy. Just get it running and have a cheap "ski" boat to use vs his old trihull w/o outboard. My guess was 3-5K, but I might be optimistic on finding parts cheap.

I think that you could find something that was running for that type of money. I think you would have more into the boat than expected. I think that he should also be concerned about the stringers on that old of a boat. Look on Ebay or other sites you may beable to find a deal.

My 2 cents

If the cost is going up near 8,000 my be you should look for a good used boat.

This is at Skiers Pier

If your friend is also around Rockford, IL it's not a bad ride. Ron K. also has an 1992 Malibu Euro Skier 195. Dontknow.gif
