Registering an out of state boat in CA?

Just wondering if anyone has gone through this, and if there are any things out of the ordinary I need to worry about.

You are better off leaving the registration out of state. Once its registered here you will be liable to personal property tax.

edit: most of us try to get our CA registered boats registered out of state, not the other way around :)

I don't know about Registering it but I do know that you will be allowed to pay a nice little "Luxury Tax" every year on your boat in addition to your Reg. Fees.

Yeah, it's for my Echelon. I've had it registered in Montana since I've owned it, but I have a buyer for it, and he REALLY wants the registration in his name, and in CA. (Even though I've offered to let it ride in MT, and he'd have to pay no tax, or fees...) Dontknow.gif

None the less, I just want to know are there any special inspections, or hoops he'd have to go through?
