Saggy Cover

Recommended Posts

2007 with tower. The cover holds more water than the ShamWow. Puddles are deep. I have 3 garbage cans in there already. I read about a rope between the towers, but the front fills too. Some have told me to take it to a sail shop, but I would not know what to tell them. Maybe add a few more poles? Maybe I need to make the straps tighter? They seem tight but sometimes the cover slips up due to the weight of the water. I am afraid that if I make the cover tighter I will break the plastic clips. Please help!

What kind of cover do you have, a Sumbrella Great Lakes cover or a Commercial Sewing cover with ratchet straps at the back of the boat?

The ratchet straps

You can crank down on those ratchets, but once those covers get stretched out, its game over.

Your best bet would be to add some more poles, you will probably need 3 total to keep an XTI from puddling.

I also remember seeing a PVC solution that wasn't as elaborate as the one above. If I remember properly it created a hoop like curve across the beam of the boat. It held the cover up in a curved manner so the water would roll off. It seemed like a good solution to me.

The one thing I don't like about my cover is that I store the boat with the tower down. The tower rests on the cover by the windshield. It does keep the cover pulled tight though.

The boat is stored in the garage or under a lift, so water isn't usually an issue, but the tower resting on the cover bugs me.

During the winter months I keep my boat in a garage that isn't tall enough to put the tower up either; I screwed an eye bolt into the ceiling and have a strap hold the tower up off the cover.

I too have an XTi and was having problems with water pooling on the cover (just in the back though) so I put a piece of pvc with a "T" at the top in the table support base and have the cover drape over that. Works like a champ.

For the front you could try adjusting the tongue jack down to get more "run-off" but then that is going to make the back worse.
