hi there,

Is it safe to install one of tose car gadgets that plug into the lghter (12 v) to get 120 V output?

I intend to use that to clean my boat with a vacuum (a small black & decker portable electric duster)

I know his works for cars, but then it never hurts to ask.

A power inverter should do what you want it to (that's what you were talking about) but make sure the boat is running when you have it on as it draws a lot of power from the battery. I had a computer hooked up to ours, just around 125 watts on a 300 watt inverter and within 10 mins, the car battery was dead enough to not start the car. Also, make sure not to put anything that requires large amps as the power inverter won't be able to power it.

Honestly,

I don't think running even a small vacuum off of an inverter is going to work well.

Especially, as stated, it's gonna draw a lot of power and the boat would have to be running.

Ive got one of the Dewalt 18v Wet/Dry shop vacs. It is a 1 gallon tank. I would be nervous not using a wet/dry vac in the boat. With the Dewalt I can pull the battery and recharge. It will run about 15 minutes on a charge.

I've heard good things about that DeWalt set up.

I really like it. It makes clean up pretty easy. It is light and small enough that it is easy to move around the boat. I do not have power at my lift so this is by far the easiest way to clean up any water or what have you.

Most of my tools are the Dewalt 18v variety so having the vacuum on the same battery makes it easy. The vacuum cost about $100 at Home Depot.

I want to thank you all for your feedback.

I think I'll get a large extension from the boat house and get a wet/dry vac.

It will probably be cheaper, more effecitve and greener as I clean with the engine off

Thanks agaion, great site!
