How do I remove the rear seat? 97 Sunsetter VLX

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

So while working on my ECU saga (different thread) I noticed that the tracking fin is very loose. I got the floor panel off and there isn't enough room to slide the tank back and lift it from the front. Sooo looks like i have to lift it from the rear which means I need to take the rear seat out.

Anyone done this to a 97 or earlier VLX? Does the whole seat come out or can I get away with just taking the seat bottom support out (can't see how I'd do this)?

I just took my rear seat back out of my 06 vride. I have no idea if it's even close to your set up, I'll let you research that, but my good deed for the day is this post. Open the engine cover and lockers. You'll see a bunch of screws across the top, back side of the seat back anchored to the metal framing, remove all of them (and cuss at Malibu for putting one right behind the pylon! use a small phillips bit with some needle nose vise grips). There are 3 more bolts on each side of the seat back, 7/16" but don't quote me on that, I actually took the side panels off for easier access.

I did all this because Malibu cheaped out and used cotton thread instead of polyester on my interior stitching, the previous owner used a strong cleaner to clean the boat and it ate the stitches. Does anyone know if they did this on all bu's or just the vride???

Thanks
