Adding heater and shower

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

Has anyone added a heater and hot/cold shower to your boat? I'm looking at getting an 06 VLX that does not have these items onboard and would like to add them. Anything that adds comfort and will get my wife out on the water is money well spent!

I have a few questions:

1. Where is the best place to get these parts? Quality product and good price.

2. Is this something I can do myself? I have basic mechanical experience (changing spark plugs, oil, impeller).

Thanks in advance.

Depends on where you live. I live in the Spokane area, maybe 30 minutes from Rathdrum, ID., where Heatercraft is located. So I'd go there.

If you have a dealer you'd prefer to deal with, go there.

Or there is http://www.skidim.com

Be sure to ask for the Y adapter for the heater install. It will allow your heater to work at idle speeds much better. And the larger system is pretty sweet. I had 5 vents in my Mastercraft..... enough heat for everyone!

I would suggest a four outlet Heatercraft unit. Heatercraft will sell you direct but not at much of a discount so as not to undercut their dealers. Best price I found was Hamiltonmarine.com or (800) 639-2715. Might want to consider one vent as a windshield defroster. One vent @drivers feet. One hot tube. Then either 2nd hot tube or 2nd driver vent. Follow Bill's advice on Y. It's not vey hard, just be carefull drilling and vacuum as you go. (Fiberglass dust is insidious) As for the shower, one of my friends has it in his 01 & we never use it. Instead, check out the Aug. 29, 2008 post under Modifications titled "heated blanket" BTW, there's talk of a Group Buy for paid members, on Heatercraft for this spring.
