Steering problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for some help on a steering problem for my 2001 Response. The cable has recently been replaced and the steering is fine when out of the water or in water under low speed and light load. As soon as you accelerate, the steering gets really tight. Examining the boat out of the water, it looks like there is some resistance from the rudder when holding it back. Out at the weekend making a right turn is tricky as when turning the boat it feels like the steering wheel is clicking and jumping a cog...this will get worse i presume? I understand steering is stiffer at high speeds but this is clearly too much...help needed! Any ideas people?

thanks

Symptoms sound a little like the problem I had, my rudder housing was cracked. It's mounted to the inside hull, where the rudder post goes thru. Check that out. I can email you a pic of mine.

Thanks - Any pics would be helpful. Do you need to remove the entire rudder assembly to take a look...

cheers
