Optima Battery ?

Recommended Posts

From what I understand you must charge these batteries much different than a non-sealed battery. I currently have 2 Optimas that aren't coming back to life, had a trickle charge on them since this morning and nothing as of yet. But for the last month they have been hooked up to a 15amp charger, somehow the switch got flipped! Bash.gif I've got a charger built into the boat that I plug in everytime I store the boat

Is there anyway to bring them back to life or is this a lost cause.

Have you taken them to an automotive electrical shop to have them charged on one of their heavy duty chargers?  Consumer trickle chargers don't do much for a battery that's pretty low.

Was going to check it in the morning and if it hasn't come back to life I was going to take it to AutoZone and have them put it on there charger.

How old are the batterys?

Have you put a voltmeter on them?

I have talked to the guys at Optima about charging and they say that as long as the batterys still have a couple volts in them they can be recharged. If they are completely dead (0-volts) forget it there no good.

To charge them, put them on a charger at 10-15 amps for about an hour and then let them trickle charge the rest of the way at 1-3 amps. This will take 12-24 hours.

This will give you the best charge on the batterys.

Took the two batteries in this morning and had them tested. Both of them came up as unstable batteries. The lady tells me to go get two new ones to swap out with the old ones. Then I ask how much...she said it was FREE! Yahoo.gif
