Winterizing

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to winterize my 05 VLX and I cannot find the water intake hose they describe in the owners manual? I have searched and searched and cannot figure out which hose brings the water to the motor.

Also the brass plug on the bottom of the motor is rounded off, any ideas how to get that out? Dontknow.gif

If you know where the raw water pump is you can follow the hoses. 1 will go to the transmission cooler, and the other will go to the bottom of the boat. That one is the water intake hose.

Craftsman makes special sockets for rounded nuts, you might have to try one of those. I would suggest getting a new plug and putting that it, not reusing the old one. Home Depot/Lowes/Menards should carry those.

No, I am talking about the one at the bottom of the block. Not easy to get to and rounded off

Ok, good. Carry on.

Is it possible the fresh water intake goes directly into the transmission, out the other side and back to the water pump? This hose appears to be very heavy and would not be a pleasure to work with.

P.S. Thanks for the sears help, I got the plug out.

bilbao, i don't know what engine you have in your VLX, but if you have the 320 LCR (like i have in my V-Ride.) it does infact go straight to the transmission/v-drive THEN to the raw water pump.

On the starboard side of the engine just about where the oil filter is there is a brass fitting coming thru the hull. It has a valve handle you can turn on it, and a black hose with a radiator clamp going to the transmission. Undue the clamp there and stick a funnel in it if you are wanting to run antifreeze thru the motor...

the raw water pump is at the back of the engine, closest to the swimdeck. It's circular and has 2 black hoses coming out of it.

hope this helps.

Yes, but that's technically the v-drive unit. Motor....transmission.....then v-drive. There should also be a brass grate inlet on the bottom of your boat. This is the water inlet. The hose will be on the other side of it. Smaller inlets would be for ballast pumps.
