2000 RLX MDC / gauges problems

I have a 2000 RLX with the 310 vortec engine. My gauges are not always working and I can not flip between speedo pick ups

The Mechanic said it is the MDC control so I replaced the front one and it sort of works but when changing the speedo the gauge does not move as though it is frozen so it is not working. Any ideas what to do and do you need more details

I have the Monsoon engine so I'm not sure your set-up is the same, but each season my guages stop working and all I have to do is push in the bundled wire connector at the back of the engine ( It is on the left hand side, just above the transmission Can't miss it, there must be 30 wires wrapped inside it). Over the season it must loosen a bit

P.S. one of my speedos does not work, even when I get the guages going.
