How to change oil in tranny

Recommended Posts

Suck as much as you can out w/ some sort of extractor (I got mine at Harbor Freight, many use a turkey baster) and put the same amount back in!

I placed the old ATF in a ice cream bucket and marked where the top was. Then emptied and cleaned the bucket, filled new AFT up to the mark and poured the new ATF in through a funnel. Sure beats adding a little and then rechecking all the time.

one of the crew came up with this one.

he borrowed the manual oil extractor (metal, cylindrical , kind of looks like a grease gun sans the lever) that i bought just for the trans. oil change. it will work but it may take a bit for the seals to loosen up enough to pull a vacuum.

after fighting with that for too long he picked up the pump that shipped with a gallon jug of binding slime.

think ketchup pump at the state fair hot dog stand.

he fit the tygon tubing (from the manual oil extractor) onto the end of it.

it works so good it's just hard to believe.

i added another short length of tygon to the 'out' spigot just to avoid any chance of splashing the boat.

it works so sweet i had to pass it on.
