2001 Sunsetter VLX wakesurf wake

I thought I would share something we tried today while we were out on the river. I have never tried wakesurfing behind my boat and still haven't, but after we finished boarding I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of a surf wake could be thrown up by a diamond hull v-drive like mine.

I had the wedge down, the center ballast filled, one rear tank filled, and the three big boys out today in that corner of the boat. I set the perfect pass and slowly took it up until an enormous clean wake emerged. We were all quite impressed. There were a lot of OMGs voiced. I wish I had taken a picture of it.

I can't wait to take a board out with us and try it out, but by the look of the wake, a diamond hull v-drive puts out an incredible surf wake.

A couple of weeks ago I went surfing with a friend who owns an 2000 Sunsetter VLX. We put 2 500lb sacks (we couldn't fill the sacks all the way, but had at least 800lbs in there) in the port side trunk, wedge down, and 3 200lb+ guys. The surf wake was awsome. Diamond hulls can make great waves. Yahoo.gif

What is your ballast setup anyways? I've got this beautiful diamond hull in the garage that needs some sacs.

I have the wedge of course, a hard tank in each rear locker, and a huge bag that fills the ski locker. I had the ballast system installed by the dealer with the fill/drain switches on the dash which makes it all clean and convenient. If I knew then what I know now, I would have placed soft sacs in the rear lockers and not the hard tanks. I rarely use the rear tanks and so I lose a lot of storage space. After seeing SacRiverRat's conversion of the hard tanks to sacs, I may take that on as a project in the future and reagain the space, but still have the ability to add the weight.

The rear tanks are I believe each around 400# and the ski locker bag is I believe around 700 or 800#. The three 'big boys' averaged around 200# each.

Everyone who goes boarding behind the boat is impressed with the wake, but I've got to say that the wakesurfing wake really impressed me. I've surfed behind a loaded VLX and Troy's 23LSV and I believe the wake thrown by my boat was just as big.

unfortunately i can't weigh my boat adown too much on account of the low gunwales, but with 600-750 lbs on the stbd, side and wedge, we get an VERY clean and surfable wav/ke. there is no white-wash at all. it's awesome. i am going out again today with my little cousins down from kirkland(seattle area). i'll get some pics and try to post 'em.
