Fuel pressure test/release valve leak

Recommended Posts

A couple days ago, fuel began leaking out of the schraeder valve (fuel pressure test port) on the line to the fuel rail. The motor is a 365 Hammerhead (multi-port EFI) and the boat is a 98 Sunsetter VLX. It only happens when the ignition is on. Any ideas of what may be causing it to happen(bad fuel pump, bad valve, etc...)?

Thanks

I hope you didn't put a plain old tire core in there. I'm pretty sure the o-ring on a fuel schrader is made of a different material that can can withstand the gas.

I went to Kragen and asked if I needed a special core for the fuel system (seemed like there should be) and they said no. I bought one of the 4 dollar kits with the tool and 4 cores. If they don't have a special core for fuel systems, any idea of who would?

Thanks

To tell you the truth, I don't know. I just seem to remember that the seal on a fuel schrader is red and the seal on a tire core is black. Seems to me that they're different.

The seal on the old one was black and the seal on the new one is red. I can't find anything online that talks about a specific valve for the fuel line. Maybe I'll try a NAPA and ask the same question. My gut tells me they must make a core with a black seal for fuel lines.
