high altitude skiers

I use a 11 1/2 pitch prop at Navajho and a 12 at Basalt. Hope this helps. Both seem to be really good for course skiing. I tried a 10 1/2 but it was just a little to easy to spin with 400 horses.

Thanks for reply. I'll be using boat at Navajho. Current prop is 13x13L 4 blade. Thought 13x11L 4 blade might be good selection. That size was difficult to locate on line and at near $400 a pop I would like to make sure. I don't have near your horsepower. Either 260 or 300 haven't located specs yet. Runs very strong at sea level. Are you talking about private ski lake in Basalt, Visited lake once many years ago. Very nice. Thanks

I have a 1996 sunsetter with a 13x13 prop (have both a three and four blade prop for the 13x13; both came with the boat; no real difference I can tell but maybe a slightly better wake with the four blade). When I took the boat to tahoe (6250 feet) it was a dog, needed a new prop, the local marina supply shop had a 13x11. The new prop worked perfect at altitude. Now rev's at tahoe just as easily as at lower elevations. I usually change it back when I'm at sea level, but leave it when at 3500 feet. Even at sea level it is ok, just have to watch that you don't over rev the engine because it will rev much quicker. Probably worse gas usage at low altitudes also with the lower pitch prop. Either work equally well at mid altitudes (3500 feet).

Still trying to get the idle right at both locations. Seems like it is always alittle lower at altitude than at sea level and finding a middle ground is proving hard as I don't use the boat enough in either location to get it right!

BTW the 13x11 is a three blade brass prop. My boat has a 300 hp 350 carb engine.

Good luck,

Tom
