hard start when warm

Recommended Posts

Thanks for advice about skidim for prop shaft. MY 1992 MALIBU SKIER with 5.7 mercruiser will fire instantly when cold but after warm up, very hard start. Problem was not so bad at near sea level but when I brought boat home to Colorado problem much worse, also will not idle well at altitude. Mechanic suggested different prop to solve low power out of hole, but did not recommend rejetting carb. Its a rochester

sounds like the motor is getting too much fuel, is there a real bad rich smell?

your choke is problay getting stuck..

didn't recommened re-jeting the carb? that's wierd, you almost have at altitude, prop will make a difference.

If you have an eletric choke, make sure it is fully open when engine is warmed up. My electric choke requires the alternator to send a current to the choke. The altenator needs to be idling at 800+ RPM's to be able to send a current to the choke. If your Mercruiser is like mine you might not be getting a high enough RPM to send electrical current to the choke at the higher altitude. Put your finger on the two screws on the choke to see if they are hot to check and see if electrical current is getting to the choke.
