96 Monsoon redline

Recommended Posts

i recently swapped my 14x18 OJ for an ACME 537 (13.5x16, IIRC). i used to bump the rev limiter periodically when running wide open and unloaded, but i don't remember what RPM that occurred.

i was running wide open unloaded last wknd for the first time with the new prop, and was around 5400 rpms but not cutting out like what i thought was the rev limiter before. this doesn't make sense to me - i expected to hit redline much easier than with the OJ. maybe that wasn't the rev limiter before?

so... anyone know the redline for a 96 Monsoon? or maybe a better question - IS THERE a rev limiter on a 96 Monsoon? i checked the Indmar manual with no luck.

wow, i didn't eralize i could get the rpms up that high without blowing it up.  i have never taken it over 4400 with our monsoon.

Well you don't gain much after about 4500 rpms.

i was watching some automotive show on SPEED channel, and they were promoting a new form of engine block brace to extend the life of the engine.

they were little aluminum braces that spanned from head to head(4 total) to stop engine warping or something like that. they showed what happened when they tried to rev as high as they could on a 351, and a huge hairline fracture went through the entire block.

with the braces, they were able to rev the mouse motor to 9,120 rpms!!! that's an impressive feat in my book.

does anybody have any idea what i'm talking about? i've looked on the internet to no avail.

Also remember the tachs in our boats don't always tell the truth. I know my perfect pass analog tach is nearly useless, and lots of boats I've put on the rinder scan tool which tells the rpms off the ecm (along with a bunch of other cool stuff) tell a different story than the tach.
