Hurth transmission noise

Recommended Posts

I have a noise coming from my transmission that I can only hear at idle. I read my manual and it says that the filter element could be clogged. Anyone have any experience with this?

Changing that filter is pretty much impossible without lifting up the engine, some have done it on certain models though.

Have you tried changing the fluid a couple times to see what that does?

Also what does the noise sound like.

Might not be the transmission. It could be the drive plate going bad. I have a 2005 LXI with 290 hrs. on it and the drive plate went bad this summer. Dave

i thought i was up on the mechanics of an inboard boat, i've owned four of them one mastercraft and three malibu's. i've never heard of the drive plate, could you be referring to the flywheel?

The drive plate bolts onto the flywheel. It takes up the shock when you put it into gear. It looks like a clutch plate that would be in a vehicle. What happened to mine was the springs started coming out and one of the springs just happened to find its way into the starter and locked up the starter. Indmar covered it and the new plate was alot stronger. Dave

I think it's called a damper plate, at least that's what I was told. We are having the same problem on our RLX (Monsoon 320), and so are planning to replace it before next season.
