Additional Cleats

I'd be interested in this too since the forward cleats on my 08 23lsv are too far aft to be of much use...I ended up running the dock line through the bow eye instead...

Hey all,

Can additional pop up cleats be added with out compromising the hull? If so any info on DIY would be nice..........

Thanks

I've always wondered why they don't put a pair of cleats at the bow on these boats. It seems like all the other boats I've ever owned or been around have had 3 sets of cleats on them, not just two like our Malibus.

I have the 2 pair from Bu and I think they should be as high up as they can be. I also added a single pull up cleat behind the bow light. I use it to tie off while eating lunch or rafting.

I installed some on my Mastercraft. Here are some before and after pics of the install in case anyone wants to try this themselves. It was extremely easy to do. Just make sure you CAREFULLY measure and plan BEFORE you cut a big arse hole in your boat! :-)

The cleat parts with backing plate:

The big cut - I used painters tape to keep the gelcoat from chipping, and to draw out the template to cut. I used the backing plate as the template, which worked perfectly:

The finished hole - I used a drill for the holes, and a dremel with abrasive wheel to cut the oval:

The finished install - the flange of the cleat covers the cutout perfectly - factory, eat your heart out! :-)

I actually have two of these cleats left if anyone is interested in taking them off my hands. They're super high quality stainless and work like a charm.

I just bought the 4 Malibu pop-ups that came off of h2ojerm's boat the went up in flames (thanks again, h20jerm!) and am debating exactly where to install them. Any insight would be appreciated!
