340 monsoon oil and filter...

Recommended Posts

How much oil should I get when changing the oil? Is there a specific part number for a filter I can buy? Or just give the indmar dealer the type of engine I have? Thanks a lot.

The Indmar Manual says Pennzoil PZ3. Just wondering how you found out about the NAPA one?

Of course, I'd much prefer NAPA as their parts are much easier to find...

NAPA Gold 1069 Filter, and you should get around 5-6 quarts!

Common knowledge at this point. Check the various forums & you will find the same Napa filter being used.

At some point someone brought a factory filter into Napa & cross referenced it. I just did this on my Arctic Cat 650V2. Finally got away from buying $20 filters from the dealer..... and probably got a better product from Wix (Napa).

Or, you could use any of these:

Merc. 35-802885T or newer 35-866340K01

Penn. PZ3, NAPA gold 1069, AC PF25

Penske PN30, Fram PH30, Puro. L20049

Castrol CM30, Motorcraft FL10,

Quaker State QS30, Wix 51069

*sigh* just buy the Napa gold. These anal types that over analyze everything are frustrating. Engines are not rocket science, they are about as simple as simple can be.

The only thing these type of parts are going to get you (possibly) are a LITTLE more life out of the engine but you will NEVER know the difference unless you plan on keeping your boat for the rest of your life! This includes synthetic engine oil (except in turbo engines or racing engines)

I run nothing fancy, never will. Big waste of money. I do not plan to keep this boat forever.

Yes, I have an obsession with lubrication. There I said it. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to getting help. Seriously, some are willing to pay an extra $4 for a premium filter, some aren't. To each their own.

Does it make a difference? Probably not. But do we really need to change the oil every 50 hours, and transmission every year? My trans fluid looks as bright red draining out as the day it went in. Call it cheap insurance, or an obsession. Both may be correct.

If I bought anything used, this is the type of person I would buy from. Someone just like me. :)

My Mobil1 story,In 1991 I ordered a new Chevy full size 4x4. At 85,000 the transmisson went bad.At 110,000 the rebuilt went bad,at 150,000 the rebuilt rebuilt went bad. I had a new transmisson installed and had it filled with Mobil 1 transmisson fluid( keep inmind what a poor design that automatic trans was ,i think it was a c7) . That new trans purred along until I retired that truck with over 300,000 miles. Every since that experince I have used Mobil 1 in everything I own from generators and compressors to all my trucks and cars including transmissons. So call me a sale add for M1 but I would not use any other lube.
