How many quarts of Oil for Monsoon 340 vls? The manual also says to fill oil filter half full with oil before installing it.....does everyone do this? I think this is the first time I heard of doing that.

Thanks!

i filled my filter as to not wait for the filter to fill up when running. I recall putting 4.2 quts in it or so. I always fill filters when changing oil whether it be car or boat.

If you dont fill the oil filter first, it takes a while for the oil pressure guage to read any pressure. Its a trip to watch it read zero for seems like an enternity. I am sure thats not why the manual sayz to do so, but still, reading zero oil pressure tends to make for a small temp panic on my part. I usually fill mine up 3/4 or so. But I dont remember the manual suggesting to do it.

My manual says 5.5 quarts total, but have never gotten that much in. Mine takes about 5.2 quarts to read at the top of the stick.

It takes 5 qts. +/- a little bit depending on your exact engine.

I've never filled an oil filter prior to installation and I've probably done more oil changes on different engines than eveyone on this website put together. I'm not saying don't do it, I just don't really think it's that necessary but, to each their own.
