Swim Platform

We have a 04 LSV and it appears that we have a slight water leak in the right rear compartment. I think it may be coming from where the swim platform brakets are bolted through the hull. The only problem is I do not see how you can get at them from the inside of the boat. Any suggestions?

I had a leak in my rear storage area. At first, I thought it might be the brackets, but getting to them seemed like I had to take out the gas tank. Before I did that, I wanted to know for sure.

I took a garden hose and sprayed everywhere to see if I could find the leak. It turned out that the water was coming in under the rub rail. There was a small gap. I sealed it up with caulk and it has been fine ever since.

If you have rear locker tanks, check your fittings at the tank. There are six, three at each end.

I had the same thing start about a month ago. It got worse each week. I finally took it to my dealer and we found that the platform bolts needed a slight turn. You can get to the bolts by pulling the carpet back at the point where the wall meets the floor. We thought that was the problem...

Got to the lake on Thursday and started filling the driver side rear ballast tank. When it had finished filling I heard a sound in the compartment and it was filling with water. The intake hose fitting on the tank had broken. Fortunately I had the tank full so I stuffed a rag in the hole to keep the water in. We just ran heavy for 4 days.

I think my fitting cracked and started leaking a little worse each trip to the lake until it finally broke completely.

To the OP, I would check that first. Pump up the tanks and see if that changes the amount of water you see. I bet thats the culprit (bad connectors, warranty item).

I changed all my fittings to the hard white nylon ones. The soft balck ones Malibu uses are junk. They tear easily and collapse when the worm clamps are tightened too tight. Even the plugs on the outlets that are not used need to be replaced and sealed with sealing tape. Malibu uses silicon and they run them down too far. The top of the plug breaks off.

I don't have balast so, that can't be the problem and the carpet on the side wall below the rub rail is not wet, that is why I was thinking it was the swim platform brackets. I am going to tighten them and see what happens. Thanks for the help.
