Trailer Winch Strap Broke

The suns UV-rays destroyed the winch strap in less than 2-years. My boat is stored outside.

Strap was originally black and still is unwinding it after you get below the outer layer that was exposed to the sun.

The strap broke (snapped) as I was driving up the launch ramp after a day on the lake. It was a good thing it happened at the launching ramp and not on the road headed out from the lake to the highway which is a winding road with some step grades. Proof you need to use transom straps and a second safety strap through the bow eye when trailering out on the road.

Check those straps !

Not uncommon at all, especially if you use your winch to load the boat very often. Also seen the winch itself explode.

ALL boats should have a safety chain/cable at the bow in addition to the winch.

mine broke this year quick fix 15-20 dollars no proplem

Mine just did the same thing over the weekend. Fortunately I have a safety chain that gets hooked up no matter what! Pulled a quick fix at the ramp (cut off the damaged portion of the strap and tied it up for a temp fix) and replaced it the next day.

Same thing happened to me, just went to good old Crappy Tire, $20 later good as new.
