Hit a big log

Recommended Posts

My friend was driving my boat this past weekend and he ran over a big log (moral of the story...). The prop got dinged pretty good and the rudder is bent. No ideas yet about the shaft, although I'm guessing it is bent. There is a 6"x6" gash in the fiberglass between the prop and rudder. Also, there are areas by the strut where the fiberglass is messed up. Fortunately nobody got hurt and I have insurance.

My question is what should I be concerned about during the repair process, ie. what should I look for?

Thanks.

So, did you have your toes up when it happened? (sorry, couldn't resist)

I think with that boat the biggest thing (other than making sure that all of the damage gets repaired) would be to check the HDS box. A hit like that....it's something that I'd be concerned over, & even if a problem doesn't show up now, it could down the road.

Very funny. Fortunately, we were just cruising.

I didn't even think about the HDS box, which is why I asked the question. Thanks for your help.

What is an HDS box?

You don't have one, & be thankful. Only comes on direct drive Malibu's, it's their idea of dampening vibration.

Toes,

Sorry, like I said I couldn't resist. If/when you file a claim with insurance, even if the HDS checks out I'd make sure that it's noted. If it becomes a problem down the road then you'd have documentation that could link it to this event.

Good advice. I have filed a claim and I will make sure that they check out and document the HDS.
