steering problem on 89 skier

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I just bought an 89 skier fixer upper about a month ago. I haven't had a chance to take it out yet, as i am replacing the floor and doing some other interior mods. Yesterday I noticed that the steering rudder (or whatever it's called) is bent to the right. The steering still turns freeely so it doesn't seem to effect that. My question is what effect will it have on the way it rides/steers when i put it in the water? How do I fix it? Does it need to be replaced? Thanks

no way to tell if it needs to be fixed or if it will do any harm. Did you drop/take the rudder out? or does it just look bent from under the boat?

My rudder housing cracked in half and I had to replace it. Is it possible your housing is cracked, making the rudder look bent?

Take a picture if you can.

No the housing is not cracked to the best of my knowledge. I'll take a second look when i get home though. I'm thinking that it's just the shaft the goes into the housing. Can that be repaired or bent back or would i have to buy a new one?
